I am a multi-year professional competitor with numerous rockcrawling and rockracing events under my belt. With experience, especially on a high level, you trick yourself into thinking you know all the tricks, tips, and little things that gives you the edge over the everyday recreational offroad enthusiast. I recently got slapped in the face with the cold hard fact that I don't know everything there is to know about crawling.

Last season we took our first trip out west to Moab, Utah for the Easter Jeep Safari. While out with U4WD’s Dustin Webster and a few other friends on the Rusty Nail trail, I learned a hard lesson in how to attack a certain kind of vertical wall that I have never drove before.

We came up to this "play area" which had a wall on it about 8 to 9 feet tall with an over-vertical lip that stuck out at the very top. As a competitor, I looked at this wall and was sure I could climb right up it, especially considering the high traction. Dustin obviously knew something I didn’t as he stood there at the top with a wicked grin on his face. I tried getting lined up a few times on the wall, picking a line, and just giving it a little gas to see if the tires would crest over. After about 3 tries of this technique, our good friend gravity took over and I rolled our brand new buggy over for the first time. After we landed and got out I looked at the buggy then up at the wall and thought...”What did I do wrong? That's what I would normally do!??!” I was at a loss.

After we got the rig back on all fours, Dustin Webster had a lengthy discussion with me about this particular wall and other obstacles that are similar to it. His method of attacking it was something I had never even considered. 10 minutes of explanation about why a vehicle works like it does and how suspensions and traction play a role in climbing, I jumped in the buggy and drove right up the same ledge that had stumped me so badly just a few minutes before.

Nobody likes to make mistakes or admit they don't know everything. But...I will gladly admit that I learned something that day out on the trail. If I wasn't with Dustin, I would have either did one of two things. I would have either rolled again trying...or I would have bypassed it and accepted defeat by the rock. I'm glad Dustin was with us that day for sure. I learned a lesson that I can use and teach when the time comes.

It is hard to beat the amount of experience that Dustin and Becca have in off-road vehicles. They are very patient, and have a great approach to teaching. It's more then teaching, they share their decades of

experience in a friendly and open method that really makes your trip a great experience. From the basic to full competition driving skills, you can't do better!

Together with the High School class I teach, we built a high performance Jeep TJ that was truly far more capable than I was skilled to drive it. After months of trying to learn the in’s and out’s of that rockcrawler, I took some lessons from Dustin Webster that made me feel like a true professional driver. After a couple of days of learning from him, off roading was more fun, I could conquer much larger obstacles with ease, and I wasn’t so worried about hurting my Jeep as I learned more about how and why the machine could and/or could not do certain things. I’m not embarrased to say that Dustin “taught the teacher” more than a couple of lessons!

Our Instructors and Crew

With 2 decades of off road driving under his belt, Dustin Webster earned a reputation of excellence by building his rockcrawling and rockracing competition team into one of the most recognised off road teams in the world. His background as a troubleshooter and professional coach added together to make him into a training expert as Dustin truly understood the why’s and how’s of the vehicles and the methods needed to conquer even the toughest obstacles and terrain. His skills as a professional Toastmaster and communicator enable him to make even difficult topics easy to understand. Google his name and you will see that it is no coincidence that Dustin is a trusted expert in the off road world.

One of the most well known names in off road, Becca Webster stormed onto the rockcrawling and rockracing scene in 2002. Since then, her skills and fearlessness have brought her 8 Women’s National titles, a World Title (against the men), a 2nd place National title (against the men), and in the last World Championships she captured the silver medal spot on the podium (against the men). Obviously her titles speak for themselves but as she was a high level gymnastics coach for 15 years, she also has the ability to teach the skills in a way that makes the lessons a ton of fun. Because the skills she teaches are real and usable, it’s a win-win on value for you.

An automotive fabrication, troubleshooting, and maintanance wizard, Dallas Ashley of SFR Racing joined our team in 2004 and has become an integral part of our success. He teaches the preparation and fine tuning of trailrigs and competition vehicles so you can be truly prepared to hit the trails or competition courses with peace-of-mind that your rig will perform its best. Also, because Dallas has worked together with our team for so long on strategy development, training, and in competition, he has developed his own strong skill-set for driving and teaching the skills needed to conquer big obstacles like a champion.
